2026 WildDrone Hackathon in Kenya

At the 2026 WildDrone hackathon, students, engineers, conservationists, and Kenyan partners came together in Ol Pejeta Conservancy to test drones and AI in real-world conditions.

From solar-powered gliders to swarming drones, teams explored how technology can monitor ecosystems, support rangers, and generate actionable data at scale.

WildDrone is about more than innovation. It’s about collaboration, education, and building the next generation of conservation tech talent in close partnership with local communities and experts.

But to feed your appetite, here are some numbers:

  • We imported 29 drones into the country.
  • At the height of activities there were 38 wilddroners active in Ol Pejeta.
  • We flew 3 types of drones: quadcopters, fixedwings and even blimps!

Watch the highlights from two intense weeks of fieldwork, experimentation, and global teamwork here. Thank you to Chris Morgan for producing this beautiful aftermovie, and to everyone who contributed to making this research collaboration a success!
